Our Mission – Our Annual Program

The legacy of the survivors of the Mauthausen concentration camp and its satellite camps forms the foundation of our work. As the official successor organization, we have borne the responsibility since this legacy was entrusted to us in 2000 to ensure their voices are heard and to carry their mission forward into the present and the future.

The Mauthausen Committee Austria stands for an active “Never Again!” We expose the mechanisms of exclusion, hatred, and violence, confront them, and resolutely oppose them. Today, this work is more important than ever.

Our focus lies on remembrance and memorial work, educational work with young people, and a clear commitment to combating right-wing extremism, racism, and hate speech. Every year, thousands of young people participate in our workshops on prevention, awareness-raising, and moral courage. In addition, we provide historical education at sites of former satellite camps of the Mauthausen concentration camp and create spaces for critical engagement and learning from history. Central elements of our work also include organizing the International Commemoration and Liberation Ceremony, the Festival of Joy, and discussions with eyewitnesses. In this way, we keep the legacy of the survivors alive—as a mission for all of us.

All projects, commemorative and liberation ceremonies, and educational programs can be found in our current annual program.
